Chapter 5: In which Marta, Gilbert, and Floaty got to Tetuan and meet the wondrous Tucker

After the arrangements had been made, Marta Gil, and Floaty made their way to Gil’s old car. As Marta stepped into it, she looked about and remembered all the strange objects that Gilbert had packed. It seemed as though none of the items would be of much use.

“Mr. Gilbert, why ever did you bring such useless items?” Marta asked.

“Useless?! USELESS??? These items are of very high value! I brought them in the hopes of selling them for some much needed cash along the journeys. Some of the items however are meant for us to keep. Fortunately, the Tetuan Headquarters doubles as a pawnshop. We can sell some of these goods to impressionable Mexican children who come to shop at the place. The rest we can keep in storage, along with the car” explained Gilbert.

“Oh I see. So what is the lady we’re meeting up with like? Her name is Tucker isn’t it?” asked Marta.

“Yes, her nickname is Tucker. It’s a funny story actually how she got it, but I’ll save it for a rainy day. Her real name is Heatherly Emily Amy Anne Huglesbishop. This of course is a bit of a mouthful, so she just goes by Tucker. She is a delightful gal who is kind to everyone! She is very smart yet a bit touched! She is the life of the party and has saved Goodkind more than few times. You’ll really like her! In fact, you two have a special connection.” said Gil.

“Oh I’m so exited! I can’t wait to meet her. But how are we connected?” asked Marta.

“I’m not sure really, she’ll have to tell you herself.” replied Gil.

“Oh, I nearly forgot! See that red yo-yo there? That is for you. It’s actually not a yo-yo at all, but a Slo-yo. You see, our opponents developed these special attack glasses called Sloggles. So, as a defense, we created Slo-yo’s, to repel the powers of the Sloggles.” declared Gil, rather proudly.

“But what do they do?” inquired Marta.

“Well, Sloggles to a kind of dark magic. Evils can use Sloggles to peer into the minds of the creatures around them. If you don’t counterattack the use of Sloggles, they can eventually begin to control your mind! We lost some Good fighters to Sloggles. You use the Slo-yo like a regular yo-yo,, but it will send out vibrations which will effect the inner workings of the Sloggles. We are trying to come up with ways to get all Good fighters a Slo-yo, but they are hard to come by. You are very lucky to be getting one.” noted Gil.

“Oh wow! That’s so cool! I hope I’ll never have to use it!” said Marta.

The two traveled onwards, going farther and farther south. During this time Marta began to comprehend a very new concept to her. She felt as though ever since she left Kansas with Gil, she had lost her concept of time. Seconds were undistinguishable from hours. Minutes could have been years, and she would not have known. And thus, the drive to Tetuan was virtually impossible to give a time for.

When they finally arrived in the town, Gil went into the barbers for his haircut. After, they bought a few items. Then, Gil and Marta drove happily down a windy lane to a rickety looking old pawnshop. The store had the words “Tetuan Headquarters” written on it.

Sitting outside, on a broken little chair was a pretty woman. Her age was indistinguishable, but she had a matured face. Her short blonde hair flipped out from under a sun bonnet. She was wearing a blue velour dress, and was patting a stray puppy kindly on the head.

As Marta and Gil got out of the car, the lovely woman gave a big smile.

“Oh Gil! I’m so glad you are coming! This must be Marta! I‘ve waited so long to finally meet you again. I haven‘t seen you since you were a baby!” said Tucker.

  1. Slo-yos and sloggles? How do you come up with this stuff? What about slow cones? This is like when I was a kid and my sister would write stories and I would always await eagerly for the next chapter. I'm inspired. I might have to go buy a sloth.
